Volunteer at Murray Scholls
We need volunteers to work a minimum of two consecutive hours each week for at least three months. Some volunteer tasks may require less frequent volunteer shifts.
The Beaverton City Library @ Murray Scholls does not offer volunteer opportunities for court ordered community service.
Types of Opportunities Available
Shelving - Volunteers assist with shelving holds and videos. This is the most needed volunteer position in the Library and a great way to get started as a Library volunteer.
Hold Report Volunteer - Volunteers search the Library shelves for Beaverton items patrons have placed on hold. This is a morning position only.
Homework Helper - During the school year, volunteers help children and teens with homework in the afternoons and evenings, Sunday - Thursday. The Children’s Division provides Homework Help to grades 2 - 5. The Young Adult/Teen Division provides Homework Help to grades 6 - 12 with an emphasis on advanced math and science.
Mending Volunteers - Volunteers help Library staff keep the collection clean and attractive. They wash or replace book jackets, tape torn pages, replace spine labels and repair minor spine damage. Volunteers also assist with DVD/CD cleaning.
Storytime Helper - Work one-on-one with a staff member in prepping and hosting a storytime for young children. Volunteers assist with crafts, cleaning toys and books and getting materials ready for storytime. Please note: Volunteers do not lead storytime or read directly to children.
Program Assistant - We have many opportunities for program volunteers—assist in preparing crafts for a children’s event; create program/marketing fliers; lead a teen club; host movies in our auditorium and more!
Summer Reading Volunteers - Stay busy this summer and volunteer to help with our busy Summer Reading Program—register kids for the program, distribute prizes, assist with programs, help create craft projects, assist with book displays and more!
