Volunteering Information

What time commitment is expected of me as a Beaverton City Library volunteer?

Most of our volunteer positions require a committment of a two hour shift, once a week, for a minimum of three months.

Do I have to have a set schedule?

Yes! We need to know when to expect volunteer help and be ready for you--so scheduling is very important.

How old do I need to be before I can volunteer?

Applicants who are 14 years of age and up will be considered for volunteer positions. Occasionally, 12-year-olds assist in Children's Services for the summer reading program.

Does the Library accept Court Ordered Community Service Volunteers?

Unfortunately, the Library is unable to accept court ordered volunteers. The volunteer program at the Library is looking for people who want to make a minimum commitment of three to six months and volunteer two or more hours per week. Most court mandated volunteering does not fit into this structure.

I'm interested in volunteering. What happens next?

  • Fill out the Volunteer Application (PDF) and drop it off at the Library or mail it to the address listed on the application.
  • The Library Volunteer Coordinator will call you to set a time for an interview.
  • At the interview, the Volunteer Coordinator will work with successful candidates to match skills with library needs and set a work schedule.
  • On your first day you will receive training from your volunteer supervisor.
  • If you have questions about the volunteer program during your interview, placement, or after you have started your assignment, please feel free to ask the Volunteer Coordinator.

How long does it take before you can start volunteering?

On average, it takes successful candidates two to four weeks after you submit an application to be placed as a volunteer and begin training.

At the Beaverton City Library we strive to provide a meaningful and enjoyable volunteer experience for those who wish to share their time and skills with us. Thank you for your interest in our program!
